Looking up…
Space Watch
One question, answered every evening: is tonight worth going outside?
- A score out of ten for tonight, from what is up, how dark it gets and what the cloud is doing.
- 7 or more means go outside. Those are rare — often a week or two apart — so most nights we will say "not tonight", and mean it.
- The rest of the time there is a constellation to learn, and we can tell you when a good night is coming.
Two quick questions and you are in. No account, nothing to sign up for.
Space Watch needs to know where you are to work out what is above you tonight.
Pick somewhere, or type any coordinates.
How dark is it where you will be standing?
This changes the score more than anything else we know about you — the same night is a 4 from a city centre and a 7 from a dark field.
Could not work out tonight's sky.
No weather beyond the coming week — past about seven nights the cloud is a guess. These are the dates themselves, rated for how good they could be from where you are if the sky is clear.
Ways into the sky beyond tonight's number.
Each one is a walk: find the first pattern, and every one after it is found from the one before. That is how anybody who knows the sky learned it.
